In the US today, Black birthers are 3 to 4 times more likely to die from complications surrounding pregnancy and childbirth than their white peers. Black women and birthers are less likely to be heard, taken seriously, or even believed when talking to medical professionals about pain or concerns about their own bodies. We as a community need to advocate for better care for our Black birthing family.
This means better access to Black birth workers like midwives and doulas, more money into Black birthing advocacy groups like @blackmamasmatter and @naabb, and better education and training for doctors and medical professionals on the topic of racial inequity, prejudice biases, and flat out racist views and practices.
For all of Black Maternal Health Week (April 11-17, 2022), 100% of profits here at ...And Out Come The Boobs will be donated to the amazing organization @blackmamasmatter
Not just that, but all profits from our Lactate With Love shirt will be donated there as well, for the next 6 months!
Our Lactate With Love shirt was beautifully designed by certified @birthnerds, Lauren J. Turner (@laurenjturnerfineart), a Black birthworker and Black birth rights advocate, as well as an incredibly talented artist.
Profits from this shirt, from now until forever, will ALWAYS be donated to organizations supporting and training Black birth workers, doulas and lactation consultants. We have made a commitment to financially support folx working for reproductive and racial justice, and will continue to do so far beyond #blackmaternalhealthweek
